Case Study: How a 360° Spin Image Resulted in Outranking eBay and Amazon

In April 2024, Big Turntables did a 360 photoshoot of the Open Story 25L Backpack, a brand owned by Target. Utilizing our Giant Turn photography turntable, we took 72 photos of the backpack from every 5 degree rotation and then turned these photos into a beautiful 360 spin image that customers can rotate and zoom in on from every angle.

 

We launched this product page on Big Turntables with a 360-spin image on April 2, 2024 and as you can see from our analytics, this product quickly vaulted to a top 10 listing on Google, amongst stiff competition.

 

 

As of December 2024, this product ranks 4th on Google with the keyword term “open story 35l backpack” (shown below), just behind Target and Reddit and ahead of eBay and Amazon. This amazing result is a testament to using 360 spin images as Google places heavy weighting on engaging content including interactive images. According to Google, Products with 3D imagery have "50 percent more user engagement when compared to products with 2D images".  

 

 

On the “Popular Products” section of Google, our product page on Big Turntables ranks 2nd ahead of eBay, Shein, Shipt, and Poshmark, amongst others.

 

 

Additionally, this page ranks 5th on Google for the popular search term “open story backpack”, just behind Amazon. This term gets 1,500 searches per month on Google according to SEMRush.

 

 

CONCLUSION

360-degree product photography can dramatically increase search rankings and quickly. In a highly competitive e-commerce landscape, having a more engaging shopping experience is crucial to standing out amongst the crowd.
