Case Study: How We Ranked 4th on Google in Just 3 Weeks after Incorporating a 360° Spin Image

This product is a large dog crate by KONG, a pet product company best known for its durable rubber dog toys, especially the classic KONG chew toy that can be stuffed with treats.

 

But KONG is a leader in a lot more products than just the chew toys. Take this large dog crate, for example.

This product was photographed at our Boulder, Colorado photography studio in January 2025. Utilizing our Giant Turn photography turntable, we took 36 photos of the backpack from every 10 degree rotation and added a few photos showing the product being opened up. We then turned these photos into a beautiful 360 spin image that customers can rotate and zoom in on from every angle.

 

We launched the product on Big Turntables with a 360-spin image in January and as you can see from our analytics, despite being in a very competitive field of large retailers, we were able to get to a top 5 listing on Google within a month. 

 

 

As of February 2025, this product ranks 4th on Google with the keyword term “KONG large dog crate”, a keyword term that gets 720 searches per month on Google.

 

 

As you can see from the above image, PD (paid difficulty) is at 100. PD is the estimated competition in paid search with the higher the number (out of 100), the more difficult it is to compete. To rank in the top 4 organic rankings within a month of launch is incredibly difficult.

We also checked the keyword phrase “KONG dog crate”, which is a more general keyword phrase that gets significantly more search volume. This phrase gets 4,400 searches per month on Google.

 

 

As of February 2025, Big Turntables is ranked 7th on Google for “kong dog crate”, just one month after this product was launched.

 

Our product page is ranked second under “Popular Products” on google, just ahead of Poshmark and Chewy.com. Again, all of this speaks to the power (we believe) of 360° product photography and Google’s emphasis on ranking products with more engaging photos higher.

 

CONCLUSION

360-degree product photography can dramatically increase search rankings and quickly. In a highly competitive e-commerce landscape, having a more engaging shopping experience is crucial to standing out amongst the crowd.
